Technical Services at the University of Reading offers a great opportunity to join the team providing teaching and research support services in the microbiology Division. You’ll be joining us at an exciting time as we relocate into the new Health and Life Sciences building.
Technical Services at the University of Reading seeks an enthusiastic individual with a keen eye for detail to join our team of Microbiology technicians.
You will be responsible for creating media and diluents, gathering and sterilizing consumables for practical classes and research groups. You will monitor and order stock items as well as maintain our own essential supplies of sterile glassware, media and equipment. To ensure our services are of the highest standard, you will play a key role in helping us maintain sterility, aseptic practices, and a clean & tidy working environment.
Your application should demonstrate, in specific detail, how you meet the following essential criteria:
- Good general education to equivalent of GCSE, NVQ2, City and Guilds in scientific subject e.g. Biology, Chemistry or General Science.
- Able to effectively plan and prioritise allocated work activities on a day to day basis
- Able to solve a range of problems by responding to varying circumstances, whilst working within standard procedures
- Good working knowledge of health and safety policy and procedures affecting self and others
