An opportunity is available for a hardworking and self-motivated individual to join the forward thinking Technical Services Operations team as an Ancillary Technician. The role will require the successful candidate to be part of the Logistics Team providing specialist teaching and/or research laboratory support focusing on reliability, flexibility and excellence. Duties will ensure good housekeeping, cleaning and maintenance of high hygiene standards in laboratories. Work includes layout and clearing of practical classes, transport of teaching and research materials, specialised cleaning, glassware, waste processing and disposal. You will be required to use various equipment such as autoclaves and glass washers. You will replenish supplies to ensure that adequate stock levels are maintained and monitor environments where teaching and research materials are stored. Training will be provided in: areas that require servicing, Health and Safety, equipment and materials used.

As a founding signatory to the Technician Commitment initiative led by the Science Council, technicians in Technical Services at the University of Reading are now ensured of visibility, recognition, career development, sustainable technical skills. 
The post holder will organise themselves and carry out day to day tasks under the guidance of senior technicians and/or the Technical Manager. 

You will have:

•    Basic numeracy and literacy at an appropriate level to perform duties such as record keeping
•    The ability to follow simple written or oral instructions.
•    Able to lift, move and position equipment and materials safely e.g. goods, glassware, trollies, ladders, chemicals.
•    Some workplace experience gained through prior general work experience or training. 
•    Basic knowledge of health and safety policy and procedures affecting self and others.
•    The ability to actively participate in and work as part of a team.
