An exciting opportunity to join a project at the forefront of research into Energy Demand Flexibility has become available. We are looking for a post-doctoral research fellow to join our research team for a 1-year post, analysing data on electricity demand and developing metrics for measuring demand-side flexibility.

This is a 1 year, full-time, Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) on Flexibility in Energy Demand. The post is funded under the Flexibility Theme of the Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions (CREDS). CREDS is a UKRI Energy Programme funded initiative with a budget of £19.5 million involving 13 universities, with a core team based at the University of Oxford. The post is based at the School of the Built Environment, University of Reading. The candidate will benefit from being part of a wider research community both within the Energy and Environmental Engineering Research Group at the University of Reading as well as part of the CREDS community.

The project will produce innovative ways of measuring demand side flexibility and its value.

It will address the following questions:

How can demand side flexibility be measured in practice?

Which data are available and what missing data need to be captured?

 

The project will provide a valuable opportunity for challenging our understanding of flexibility in demand when associated with temporalities of social activity. It will be carried out in association with current and future projects on: (i) defining, conceptualising and measuring flexibility; and (ii) intervening to enhance flexibility.

The project will provide new approaches to conceptualising and analysing demand-side flexibility. It will, therefore, be important that the candidate is able to communicate the subject matter to different audiences, including the energy industry, regulators, policy makers, as well as the energy demand research community.   

 

Key tasks include:

> Use and development of data handling and analysis techniques

> Preparation of conference and journal research outputs

> Engagement with wider CREDS community, particularly under the Flexibility theme

 

You will have:

  • Ability to carry out data analytics on data sets
  • Ability to develop a variety of methods as party case study research
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to engage with industry and public for data collection and dissemination
  • Postgraduate research experience in energy demand
  • Doctorate in a relevant specialism
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Record of publications commensurate with career stage
