We seek a Senior Technician with laboratory experience and knowledge of analytical instrumentation such as e.g. LC-MS, GC, ICP-OES, HPLC, Elemental Analysers. The successful candidate will provide effective high quality teaching and research support across a suite of analytical laboratories based in the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development.
The post-holder will be responsible for:
• Maintaining a suite of laboratories and associated equipment, samples and consumables by overseeing and participating in bookings, housekeeping, data recording, waste management, stock keeping and ordering.
• The operation, troubleshooting, design and maintenance of a GC, ICP-OES, HPLC, LC-MS and associated apparatus used for teaching and research (including liaising with external engineers and organising service and repair by external contacts).
• Where necessary, receive training in the operation and provide technical back up for other analytical instrumentation.
• Provide training in the preparing, extracting and analysis of samples generated by staff and students for teaching and research purposes.
• Maintaining specialised laboratories to a high standard by ensuring H&S compliance, best practice (e.g. providing laboratory inductions; ensuring regular safety critical checks are carried-out) and excellent levels of housekeeping are upheld.
• Providing occassional support for teaching practicals.
You will have:
• BSc in relevant discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Life Sciences), or equivalent.
