We are seeking a highly motivated research fellow to join the next phase of the Lancet Countdown: Tracking Progress on Health and Climate Change. The Lancet Countdown is an independent, international and multi-disciplinary research collaboration funded by the Wellcome Trust that is tracking progress on addressing the health challenges of climate through a set of annually updated indicators.

The successful candidate, working closely with Professor Elizabeth Robinson, will be responsible for supporting the Lancet Countdown’s Working Group 1, which focuses on the links between climate change impacts, exposures, and vulnerabilities, and health outcomes. You will have a PhD in a relevant subject, that could be, for example, climate science, climate services, health economics, public health, or epidemiology. You will have a genuine curiosity and interest in the links between climate change and health, and the benefits to health of climate change mitigation. You will be comfortable working both independently, and collaboratively as part of a team of academics based in universities and research centres across the world. Key roles will include working with members of the Working Group to collect and analyse data inputs for the indicators; working with team members to streamline baseline data where possible; undertaking literature reviews; contributing to methodology development; supporting on-going efforts to improve indicators; helping to organize working group meetings and more broadly communications and policy engagement processes of the Lancet Countdown.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Prof Elizabeth Robinson (https://www.reading.ac.uk/apd/staff/e-j-robinson.aspx) and will be part of the School of Agriculture, Policy, and Development.

 

You will have:

  • A PhD in a relevant area, that could be, for example, climate science, climate services, health economics, public health, epidemiology
  • Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm to work at the intersection of climate change and public health
  • Experience of working with gridded data sets
  • Proven ability to write scientific papers and reports
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Experience of undertaking projects independently and collaboratively
