Protecting biodiversity while continuing to meet the needs of a growing human population is a key challenge of our time. Ecological intensification practices which increase crop pollination and natural pest regulation is a strategy to increase production and improve sustainability while minimising negative impacts on the wider environment. This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Centre for Agri-Environmental Research at the University of Reading on a project developing sustainable intensification practices on smallholder farms in India.

The post will help coordinate and implement field trials in study sites in India, analysing data and preparing the work for publication. Working closely with international partners, this Global Challenges Research Fund Project will involve fieldwork in India and will help deliver more sustainable approaches to food production and provide excellent fieldwork and international collaborative experience for the post holder.

You will have:

  • A PhD in biology, ecology, conservation, agriculture or similar
  • Experience of ecological fieldwork
  • Ability to design, implement and coordinate multi-site field experiments
  • A track record in statistical analyses and paper writing
  • Good organisational skills and ability to coordinate a team of field assistants
