The efficient processing of massive amounts of data is challenging for scientists. We are seeking for a PostDoc that continues our effort for smarter Data management for Earth-Science by
contributing to a EU project.
Developing the research work on the project ESiWACE2, the Centre of Excellence in Climate and Weather.
This is a post-doctoral research role to contribute to and develop the research work on the project ESiWACE2, the Centre of Excellence in Simulation of Weather and Climate in Europe. The main goal of the ESiWACE project are to:
(1) Enable leading European weather and climate models to leverage the available performance of
pre-exascale systems with regard to both compute and data capacity.
(2) Prepare the weather and climate community to be able to make use of exascale systems when
they become available.
Efficient data management is a key for the effective simulation and the main concern of this job offer.
In the project, we will develop and extend data management tools that provide an efficient usage of a heterogeneous storage landscape and deploy them on production systems.
As part of the first phase of the project, we have researched and developed a middleware to manage data more intelligently, this RD&E is continued as part of this job.
You will have:
• A PhD (or soon obtain a PhD) in Computer science or a natural science
• Good programming skills in the C programming language
• Experience with a Linux environment
• Some knowledge aof storage systems or data management
We welcome candidates that
• Have a strong background of storage systems or middleware (e.g., NetCDF)
• Are knowledgable in High-Performance Computing.
• Understand a scientific domain, particularly in Climate/Weather
• Are experienced in working on research projects
