We seek an entrepreneurial, talented and dedicated meteorologist to work on a range of cutting-edge development projects with external clients. You will take a leading role in sourcing weather and climate data, producing and verifying weather forecasts and analysing data.
The Institute for Environmental Analytics (https://www.the-iea.org) is a world-leading big data analytics centre based at the University of Reading. The IEA focuses on applied R&D and the development of innovative data applications and services in a range of market sectors.
In order to match our continued expansion, we are looking to grow our analytics team and seek an entrepreneurial, talented and dedicated meteorologist to work on a range of exciting pre-commercial projects with external clients. Besides outstanding technical qualifications and experience, candidates should be eager to learn, adaptable and motivated to turn scientific insight into solutions to real-world problems. In return we offer the chance to work on a broad range of fast-moving and intellectually stimulating projects with the opportunity to travel overseas.
You will take a leading role in sourcing weather and climate datasets, running weather models, producing weather forecasts and analysing data. You will have:
• Postgraduate degree in meteorology, climate science, oceanography or related field
• Good working knowledge of statistics
• Strong programming skills (preferably in Python)
• A creative mindset and a professional manner
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience of working in a commercial or operational environment would be highly desirable.
