We are seeking a paediatric speech and language therapist, who is a trained musician, to undertake research and conduct language interventions in autism, on an ERC (European Research Council) Proof of Concept Grant project, MAP, 838787. The funded research project is entitled “Music-assisted programmes: Developing communication in autism spectrum disorder through music making.”

The successful candidate is expected to conduct independent research and deliver language interventions for 2-4-year-old nonverbal or minimally verbal children with autism. Specifically, the post holder will help conduct a randomised controlled trial and carry out language interventions for two groups of children with autism, using either music-assisted programmes (MAP) or treatment as usual (standard speech and language therapy).

The successful candidate will have:

  • A recognised speech and language therapy qualification
  • Previous paediatric SALT (Speech and Language Therapy) experience
  • Registered with HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) as a speech and language therapist
  • Knowledge of music theory to grade 6 level
  • Training in a formal ASD assessment tool (e.g., ADOS-2, ADI-R, DISCO, etc.)
