The Department of Mathematics & Statistics is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Mathematical Analysis for a fixed term for up to 24 months.

The post holder will work full time investigating the operator and spectral theory of integral operators, with particular focus on layer potential operators in 3D. Applications are welcome from candidates with a background in any aspect of pure mathematical analysis. Research experience or interest in one of the following areas is particularly helpful: operator theory, spectral theory, harmonic analysis, or pseudodifferential operators.

The position will involve carrying out research toward the project objectives, writing research articles for publication, presenting research at conferences, and visiting project partners. A significant travel budget is available to support the post holder for the duration of the project.

The position is for a fixed term up to 24 months.
Provisional interview date: 05/06/2019.
Start date: 2 September 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.


You will have:
•    Either obtained or be near completion of a PhD in mathematics.
•    Significant prior research achievements in pure mathematical analysis.
•    The ability to carry out mathematics research, independently and in a team.
Other desirable skills:
•    Research experience in one of the following areas: operator theory, spectral theory, harmonic analysis, or pseudodifferential operators.
•    Some experience of presenting research findings in conferences, workshops, or seminars.
