Thrive is the University of Reading’s award winning Career Mentoring scheme, designed to build the employability of our students and facilitate their transition into graduate level work through the great support of our alumni and partners. Embedded within the Careers department, we have a small team dedicated to running the scheme.

Thrive has grown to nearly 500 partnerships and we are looking for a talented individual who will take responsibility for the smooth and successful operation of the scheme and hit the targets we have for the quantity and quality of mentoring partnerships and the number of widening participation students that we would like to support in their quest for social mobility.

You will need to:

  • Hold a degree and have broad knowledge of degree programmes and graduate occupations.
  • Have the knowledge to, and experience of, developing and delivering group work to professional staff at a range of levels.
  • Have the ability and experience to confidently build relationships and work diplomatically with professional staff, often on sensitive issues.
  • Have the knowledge and experience of applying best practice in managing and organising all the processes involved in a successful Career Mentoring scheme and have experience and skills in mentoring or coaching yourself.
  • Possess the written communication, qualitative and quantitative skills and experience of accurately evaluating, and writing reports on, the effectiveness of mentoring, or other similar schemes, to senior management.
  • Be experienced in line managing, and collaborating with, a small team of staff.
  • Feel at ease, applying and innovating using a range of IT and social media packages such as; online training platforms, VLEs, social media such as Twitter and LinkedIn, databases and the normal suite of Microsoft packages.
