We are recruiting a Content Officer into the Content Team reporting to the Head of Content on a permanent basis. The Content Team delivers top-class, compelling, persuasive content with and for stakeholders and colleagues from all parts of the University and its partners.

You will be responsible for sourcing, managing, distributing and creating content, working with colleagues to identify communications needs and appropriate channels.


Working within a matrix management environment, you will work on a day-to-day basis with our Research, Communications and Engagement team and our Research Institutes Business Partner to support delivery of our ambitious 2020 Research Plan. You will also work closely with the Research Institute Directors.

You will communicate world-class research and raise the profile of the University of Reading’s research institutes, including the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism, the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics, the Institute for Food Nutrition and Health, the Walker Institute (climate resilience).

You will also work closely with the new Heritage and Creativity Institute for Collections and the Thames Valley Clinical Trials Unit. 

You will:

  • Proactively source, manage, distribute and create content for projects across the Institutes and across our research community.
  • Identify communications needs and appropriate channels.
  • Plan, commission, create and publicise high quality content to build the institutes’ profile externally and promote cross-university multidisciplinary work internally, across our research community. This will include copywriting, video/film, and social media engagement (including infographics).
  • Tailor your written, graphical and audio-visual content to different audiences and media.
  • Be a team player with energy, enthusiasm and full of ideas, able to prioritise tasks and deliver outstanding results.
  • Have meticulous attention to detail and sound judgement to challenge appropriately and influence outcomes.
  • Good knowledge and experience of digital tools and techniques – Content Management Systems; Search Engine Optimisation; data analytics and statistics; web and social media analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, HootSuite); basic technical understanding of coding; Adobe Creative Suite products (eg Photoshop)


Curate, collate, draft, proof-read, commission and publish content that is targeted, effective and cuts through to key audiences.
