Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Agricultural Modelling.  This is an exciting opportunity for the post holder to contribute to the research and educational portfolio in a global and cross disciplinary environment. The post holder will be expected to further develop their own research portfolio in the context of agricultural/environmental modelling working closely with scientists in one or more of our strategic research areas (for instance, research within our Centre for Agri-Environmental Research, the Crop and Environment Laboratory, Crop Research Unit, Centre for Dairy Research and Agri-metrics). We would be particularly keen to receive applications demonstrating an interest in areas such as crop modelling in the context of climate change, developing spatial landscape models that help optimise ecosystem service provision or the integration of crop and animal models in the context of sustainable production systems. All of the above areas are within the scope of the broad objectives of the EIT Food KIC [https://eit.europa.eu/eit-community/eit-food ] of which the University is a leading partner, making this an attractive early funding target for the post-holder.

The School of Agriculture, Policy and Development at Reading is global in its outlook and has an international reputation for both education and research. It was recently ranked 10th in the World QS subject rankings for Agriculture and Forestry. Within the University of Reading, SAPD has strong research links with the School of Biological Sciences, Geography & Environmental Science, and Food and Nutritional Sciences and has an established reputation for inter-disciplinary research. The appointee will be expected to engage with relevant multi-disciplinary groupings, for example our Institute for Food, Nutrition & Health, Walker Institute for Climate System Research and Institute for Environmental Analytics. The School provides a welcoming, supportive and progressive environment for career development and consists of a learning and research community from over 40 different nations, was highly ranked in the last REF and prides itself on its multi-disciplinary research and education.

You will have:

  • MSc or PhD level education in a relevant discipline
  • Knowledge and skills relating to agricultural/environmental modelling
  • A track record in high quality research
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Presentation and communication skills required for teaching
