The post will be part of a team of 7 scientists working on the European Research Council Advanced Investigator Grant CUNDA, that will develop and combine causality and nonlinear data assimilation to infer cause and effect relation in the highly turbulent ocean area around South Africa. Specifically, the post will be responsible for the development of the ocean model, help with coupling it to the data assimilation framework EMPIRE, and be responsible for running the data assimilation experiments and assist in analysing the results.

You will have:                         

  • Develop the ocean modelling system consisting of the global NEMO model and a nested high-resolution of the Indian and South Atlantic Oceans.
  • Assist two postdoc/programmers with coupling the system to the data-assimilation framework EMPIRE
  • Perform the data-assimilation runs with the programmer and assist in analyse the results.
  • Be an active and productive member of a strong team aiming to deliver the best possible science
  • Publish high-quality papers in high-quality journals
