The National Centre for Atmospheric Science wishes to recruit an outstanding computational scientist to play a key role in developing analysis products and promoting state-of-the-art data analysis codes and the infrastructure that supports the global climate change research effort.

The Computational and Modelling Services unit of the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS-CMS, provides computational modelling services to the UK Climate and Weather research communities, develops software in-house and is responsible for installing and maintaining world-leading climate modelling systems on the UK’s most powerful high-performance computers.

The role is for developing recipes for analysing simulations using the cf-python ( and cf-plot ( data analysis software libraries ; and publicising these techniques by talking at scientific and/or technical meetings and conferences, by writing papers and documentation, and delivering training.

In addition, there will be the opportunity to work towards having cf-python integrated into widely used software stacks, and interfacing cf-python with other software libraries.

The role will suit a scientist with experience in using Python for data analysis, and a track record of communicating on scientific and/or software topics.
