The University of Reading is seeking an apprentice network engineer to join our Digital team based in offices at the beautiful Whiteknights campus. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their understanding of both wired and wireless IT networks and using AI to support the delivery of services to University customers.
Your role will be to support the provision of a robust and resilient IT infrastructure at the University, whether this be on premise connectivity or cloud service management. You will be working with Operations team members on the day to day monitoring and management of University services, tools and processes, and ensuring that appropriate action is taken in response to outages.Typical activities include:
- Monitoring network devices and proactively addressing issues
- Supporting the use of ad hoc network services, for example building an network for an outside marquee for student graduation
- Surveying wi-fi deployments and identifying improvements to the service
- Working with support teams to understand and prioritise customer requests
- Be part of an innovative team constantly looking for improvements to the University’s connectivity
You will study for the Network Engineer Apprenticeship (Level 4) with Farnborough College of Technology. You will attend college one day/ weekend must be able to make your own transport arrangements.

We are looking for an Apprentice Network Engineer to join the team to provide this foundation and learn how to deliver expertise and innovation in an digitally evolving organisation.
You will have :
- GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4/ C or above)
- GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 4/ C or above)
- a minimum of 5 GCSE's Grade C/4 or above
- A Level or equivalent Computer Science, ICT or similar (Grade C or above)
