Part time casual role


This role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Overview

We are looking for reliable and committed candidates who have excellent attention to detail, good timekeeping, strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.


General Invigilators are required to ensure that the UoR’s examination timetable runs smoothly and appropriately across all venues.


 We're seeking proactive problem-solvers who are passionate about customer service and Information Technology. You don't need prior IT support experience; we're more interested in your excellent communication skills, organizational flair, and genuine eagerness to learn and grow in the fast-paced world of IT support.


We are looking for people who have:

Experience of examination invigilation or equivalent.
Experience of working with people with dyslexia, disabilities and/or health issues (physical and mental) 
An understanding of university exam processes.



Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assisting with setting up and closing down exam venues.
  2. Assisting candidates at the start and end of exams, issuing clear and precise instructions, checking candidate identities and reporting exam absentees.
  3. Invigilating in accordance with University procedures and maintaining examination conditions at all times.
  4. Escorting candidates from the exam venue during the exam as required (for example for toilet visits), and supervise candidates whilst they are outside the exam venue.
  5. Supporting candidates taken ill to receive appropriate medical attention/support.


Hours/Availability

Examinations sessions are a minimum of 3 hours and there are two sessions per day, Monday – Friday.

Work start times are 8.20am for morning exams and 1.20pm for afternoon exams and you will be needed until the exam ends and all papers are collected. Most examinations are completed by 6pm

We are looking for people who can work as close to full-time as possible, especially for the first 2 weeks of the exam period.


Semester 2 Examination dates will May 25th - June 12 inclusive. Mandatory training will be arranged upon successful appointment to the role.


Location

Examination venues are on the London Road and the Whiteknights campuses. Both campuses have car parks and both are accessible by public transport.


Essential skills and criteria:

  • Proficiency in written English and the ability to give clear verbal instructions in English
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to remain vigilant for long periods of time (up to 4 hours)
  • Excellent time-keeping skills
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain confidentiality
