If so, we invite you to apply to lead the national communications for the DfE-funded Climate Ambassadors programme, a transformative initiative helping schools, colleges, and nurseries across England take meaningful steps toward sustainability.

As our Communications Lead, you’ll be at the heart of a dynamic national programme that connects trained volunteers with education settings to support climate action planning. You’ll shape and deliver strategic messaging, create engaging content, and ensure our communications reach and resonate with priority audiences—especially those harder to reach.

This is more than a communications role. It’s a chance to amplify hope, drive action, and build a greener future through education.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and deliver a national communications strategy for Climate Ambassadors
  • Create adaptable resources and messaging for regional hubs
  • Manage social media, newsletters, and the programme website
  • Collaborate with Department for Education Sustainability Support Programme communication teams: Sustainability Support for Education; National Education Nature Park, and Let’s Go Zero
  • Champion inclusive and accessible communications
  • Support wider environmental communications at the University of Reading one day per week


Who You’ll Work With

You’ll be based in the University’s External Relations team, reporting to the Director of Communications and Engagement, and working closely with the Head of School (Mathematical, Physical and Computational Science) consortium partners, and national sustainability programmes.

Who We’re Looking For

You’re a skilled communicator with:

  • Experience delivering communications for a large project or organisation or multi-stakeholder environments
  • Ability to translate complex ideas into accessible, engaging content for diverse education audiences
  • Knowledge of climate and sustainability, and Understanding of inclusive communications practices and digital accessibility
  • Professional in the use of social media tools including Linkedin, Instagram and Facebook.
