Job Description

We seek a post-doctoral researcher to join the Environmental Science Research Division and work on developing and applying spatially explicit models to simulate the environmental impacts resulting from predicted changes in UK land use to support the FoodSEqual project.

The post-doctoral researcher will be responsible for:

  • Developing, integrating, and testing spatial models that simulate the impact of changes to land use on soil carbon, water quality, and pollinator abundance
  • Using knowledge and initiative to interpret model outputs
  • Employing GIS and data visualisation skills to produce high quality maps, tables and figures
  • Contributing to the writing of papers for publication in leading academic journals and other relevant media
  • Documenting workflows and creating user guides to support future users of the modelling framework
  • Presenting research findings at project meetings, knowledge exchange events, public engagement activities, and scientific conferences
  • Liaising with project partners and sharing your knowledge and expertise with colleagues.
  • Undertaking project-related administration (e.g. organising project meetings, workshops)


You will have:

  • A PhD in Environmental Modelling
  • Working knowledge of Geographical Information Systems
  • The ability to run environmental models and create maps of spatial data
  • Experience curating spatial and environmental datasets
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good organisational and teamworking skills
