Job Description

If you’re someone that loves working with people, making customers happy, and being creative in finding new and exciting ways to engage with clients, then you could be great fit for this role.

We’re looking for a Memberships & Events Assistant – Business Administrator Apprentice to join our friendly and supportive team, as we grow and take on exciting new activities. We’re also looking for someone who is keen to develop and progress within our team – with automatic progression into a more senior role upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, and subject to meeting development goals set at the beginning of the apprenticeship. You will need to be eligible for an apprenticeship to be considered for this role (see below for more details).

In this role you’ll be part of the team delivering an exceptional experience to all of our clients and customers, exploring new ways to engage with current clients and to help grow our memberships. You’ll also work closely with the team supporting our varied events calendar attracting a range of audiences.

Henley Business School is a globally ranked, internationally renowned business school and part of the University of Reading. The Projects & Engagements Team (also known as the Hub team) delivers the calendars of events and activities for The Henley Partnership, the Henley Centre for Coaching, and the Henley Centre for HR & Organisational Capability, as well as business development activities across the wider portfolio of the Corporate Development Division.

Whilst the role focuses on the administration involved in all of the things we do, it’s also very varied and would work closely with the rest of our team, as well as with many areas across the department and wider business school – for a more in-depth idea of what the role will involve, please see the Job Description at the bottom of this page.

This is a great opportunity for someone seeking to start their career in customer experience, marketing, business development and/or membership engagement – all while working towards a Business Administrator Apprenticeship (level 3).

As an apprentice, you will be supported in developing your confidence and skills for the role by the Projects & Engagements Team Manager and experienced colleagues within the team. You will be enrolled on the Business Administrator Apprenticeship (Level 3 standard) provided by Farnborough College of Technology and run over 18 months. During this time, you will attend some face-to-face classes at Farnborough College 1 day per fortnight and will generate a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate the practical skills you have acquired during your apprenticeship.

Whilst this role is primarily based at our Greenlands campus in Henley-on-Thames, we also enjoy a flexible split between office and home working, taking advantage of the best that both worlds have to offer. You must also be able to travel to Farnborough College 1 day every fortnight - transport to the college will be covered by expenses.

This is a fixed term role (2yrs) with extension dependent upon progression through the apprenticeship; upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, this role will become eligible for progression from this role to the Memberships & Events Administrator (Grade 4) which is a permanent role.

Please see the job description and person specification below for further information relating to the role, or get in touch with Daniel Wallace (see below) to discuss the requirements of the role in more detail.

To be eligible for an apprenticeship, at the start of the apprenticeship you must:

  1. be 16 or over
  2. not already be in full-time education
  3. live in England
  4. have the right to work in the UK for the length of the apprenticeship
  5. have been ordinarily resident in the UK for the last 3 years

For more information on Residency eligibility criteria for apprenticeships, please see Annex A of DfE Apprenticeship Funding Rules 2024-25.
