Job Description

Are you passionate about crop improvement and skilled in crop physiology/agronomy?

Prof Donal O’Sullivan’s Crop Genetic Improvement group in the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development has an opening for a fixed-term role in faba bean breeding to:

  • Join a dynamic and expanding breeding team aiming to select novel faba bean varieties combining high yield with high protein content and quality.
  • Complement molecular selection for protein content and quality with field-based selection for yield potential.
  • Manage large plant populations in glasshouse and field trials, with end-to-end responsibility for trial establishment, phenotyping/data recording, selection decisions and harvesting.
  • Gain broad experience of the plant breeding process with opportunities to train in and contribute to lab-based selection methods and data analysis.


You will have:

  • A science degree in a relevant discipline
  • Knowledge of plant biology, physiology and/or agronomy
  • A blend of plant biology and laboratory skills
  • Good communication skills and a team-oriented mentality.
