Job Description

We are seeking to appoint an Executive Administration Officer to work within the Administration Team in the National Centre for Atmospheric Science at the University of Reading (NCAS@Reading). The role will have a particular focus on event management and support for staffing and recruitment processes within NCAS@Reading.


NCAS@Reading consists of over 65 staff undertaking world-leading climate science and developing start-of-the-art Earth System models. Our scientists and software engineers are funded by over £4 million of annual research income from a broad range of funding bodies. NCAS@Reading supports and hosts a wide variety of events, including meetings of World Meteorological Organisation, the UK National Climate Science Partnership, and large meetings of international and national climate projects. NCAS@Reading forms a major part of the UK’s National Centre for Atmospheric Science, which carries out world leading research in Weather, Climate and Air Pollution and supports UK research scientists through the provision of services and facilities including the FAAM Airborne Laboratory and data and computational services. Enthusiastic, flexible and conscientious, you take a proactive approach to your work. You will have excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to use initiative to balance competing priorities, meet set deadlines and resolve problems independently. You will have experience in the provision of administrative services, and in particular experience of supporting event organisation and recruitment processes. As an Executive Administration Officer in the NCAS@Reading, you will be a member of the national NCAS Operations Team. You will also be expected to occasionally provide cover for the administration team that supports the School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences.

You will have:

  • Experience of working in a busy office environment within an administrative role
  • Experience of events organisation support
  • Ability to maintain administrative and where necessary, financial records
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and meet set deadlines
  • A strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to ensure effective liaison and communication with all stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively to achieve team goals
