Job Description

The University of Reading is a world-renowned institution, ranked joint 169th in the QS World University Rankings in 2024, 1st in the UK in the People & Planet University League, and contributes £1billion to the UK economy.

In addition, the University has recently launched its ambitious three-year Sport & Active Wellbeing Vision 2023-2026, aimed at inspiring, growing and embedding sport and active wellbeing into the University and wider community, and is undergoing some key developments as part of this exciting new Vision.

Working as part of the SportsPark department, the Sports Assistant will form part of the Facilities & Operations team, and will assist the Sports Facilities Managers and Sports Operations Coordinators in the day-to-day operations of the SportsPark, including the setting up of equipment, support with maintenance of facilities, cleaning and reception-based duties. The post-holder will also spend approximately 20% of their time supporting sport development-based projects.

As a key team player, you will have:

  • An excellent understanding and experience of customer service and delivery
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge and experience in sports facility operations, including health and safety
  • An ability to use your initiative, and contribute to the development of sport and active wellbeing to a range of customers.

Candidates must be willing to work a shift pattern that covers early mornings and evenings, as well as two weekends in three, to ensure the SportsPark facilities are operated to full efficiency throughout business hours.

If you want to contribute to delivering an improved, impactful and inclusive sport and active wellbeing offer on an award-winning UK Green Flag campus, then we want to hear from you.
