Job Description

This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the education of globally engaged graduates studying for degrees across a range of disciplines, teaching German language to students as part of the Institutional-Wide Language Programme (IWLP) located within the Department of Languages and Cultures at the University of Reading, UK. You will join a multilingual team of professional and supportive language educators, helping deliver the Programme’s mission to equip Reading graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in the globalised society, teaching and supporting students in their learning journey and contributing to the maintenance of academic standards. We are seeking a committed, adaptable and well-organised individual who have a keen interest in language teaching and a sensitivity towards the individual needs of students.


You will have:

  • Experience of teaching German as a foreign language (A1-A2 CEFR) in a classroom setting
  • Experience of motivating and supporting students in their learning according to the needs of a specific cohort and individual students
  • Ability to adapt and develop learning materials
  • Experience of assessing student learning and provide effective feedback  
  • A first degree in German language or related discipline
  • A relevant qualification in HE teaching and/or German language teaching, applied linguistics, or relevant recognised training in foreign language teaching, or equivalent vocational experience
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, both in English and in German
  • Intercultural awareness enabling interaction and cooperation in a multicultural environment
  • Skills in using digital learning platforms and MS Office software
