Technical Services is seeking a well-organised, energetic and motivated laboratory technician to support other highly experienced technical colleagues to provide teaching and research support to School staff and students. The post holder will be based in the Analytical Division, predominantly in the School of Archaeology, Geography and Environmental Sciences and there will be opportunities to develop new skills and cross train in other science based Schools such as the School of Agriculture and Policy Development and the School of Biological Sciences. This is a fixed term post for two years however, individuals who demonstrate the potential to develop their career within Technical Services will be well placed to apply for permanent posts as and when they arise. 

You will have:

  • Experience in working in a laboratory environment
  • Technical work experience, acquired in relevant roles and job-related training
  • Achievement equivalent to HNC, AS/ A-Levels, NVQ3 in Archaeology, Analytical Chemistry or Environmental Science, or related subjects OR a degree in a similar subject with more limited experience
  • Ability, following extensive training, to develop skills in fieldwork, controlled environment, microscopy, analytical chemical instruments and micromorphology support.
  • A flexible and ‘can-do’ approach
  • Commitment to staff and student development and support
